THIS NORTH CAROLINA CITY IS ONE OF FASTEST GROWING TOURIST DESTINATIONS IN THE SOUTH

CARY, N.C. (WNCN) – One North Carolina city is being praised as a major cultural hub, ranging from art to music to fine dining.

The lifestyle magazine Southern Living singled out the Town of Cary as a blossoming, coveted destination. The former Raleigh suburb plays host to dozens of unique restaurants, shops, hotels, as well as a prosperous art and culture scene.

“Cary is making the case that there has never been a better time to do a little further digging into the state’s famed Research Triangle,” the magazine said.

The publication highlighted several places for people to enjoy the local arts, including the likes of the Koka Booth Amphitheatre, the Cary Arts Center, the Page-Walker Arts and History Center, the Cary Theater, and the town’s numerous seasonal festivals.

Southern Living recommended the Umstead Hotel and Spa as an “ideal spot” to stay after exploring what the city has to offer.

“Its tranquil setting is accentuated by luxury suites and rooms with gorgeous views of the surrounding forests, a world-class spa complete with outdoor soaking tubs, and excellent dining options,” the magazine said. “Watch chefs expertly prepare your dinner at Herons, or make a reservation for afternoon tea featuring a live harpist in the lounge.”

Another place suggested by the publication is The Mayton Boutique Hotel, which is located in the heart of downtown Cary.

“The Georgian-style hotel is situated in the center of downtown, so you can visit restaurants, breweries, and shops, then walk home when you’re ready to hit the hay,” the magazine said. “The inn is beautifully appointed and also features on-site restaurant Peck & Plume.”

In terms of dining, there’s certainly no shortage of options, such as the La Farm Bakery to satisfy your sweet tooth, Hank’s Downtown Dive to fulfill your dinner plans, and starting out your day with a bagel from Big Dom’s. All these businesses are located along Chatham Street.

Other notable attractions include spending a day watching soccer at WakeMed Soccer Park, as well as taking the time to wander through the nearby wilderness at Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve. Those who visit can also gather at Fred G. Bond Metro Park to rent a kayak, canoe or pedal boat on the lake.
