RANKING THE BEST LIFESTYLE PATHS IN CRUSADER KINGS 3

Life in Crusader Kings 3 can get pretty complicated at times. From waging war and diplomacy to managing your realm and dynasty, there's so much to do that it can be overwhelming. Fortunately, we have Lifestyle and their related path options to help guide our character choices and development.

There are five different Lifestyles in Crusader Kings 3, and each one of those has three paths to choose from. You can always cultivate more than one Lifestyle path, and you'll certainly have to if your character's lucky enough to live that long. The choice between them isn't an easy one, though, because they each offer a variety of different bonuses. They can have a far greater impact on your playstyle and the way a playthrough proceeds than you might think. Here are some of the very best choices, and why they're so strong, in this standout strategy title.

Theologian

Whether you're trying to reform a new faith or take advantage of an organized one, this path is for you. Solid opinion boosts for clergy and same faith members help with local governance. You can convert counties faster and ignore the higher fervor of other religions. Best of all, though, reforming religions costs -50% faith.

This is certainly a powerful Lifestyle path, but it also has limited goals. If you're trying to reform a religion, then that likely could take a lifetime. There are plenty of more powerful diplomatic boosts from other paths that would let you manipulate existing religions more easily, often making for a more practical route to take.

Schemer

Following this path will strengthen your hostile schemes' success chances as well as speed, and you'll even become a harder target for enemy hostile schemes. Most importantly, you can perform two hostile schemes at once and also unlock the Fabricate Hook and Abduct schemes.

Fabricating hooks is great for low-level coercion, since you can use hooks on pretty much anybody. The Abduct scheme can be overpowered in the right situations with the right planning. However, setting up those situations is extremely tricky, which is what makes Intrigue the most difficult style to play. This challenging path offers some very interesting options, but is ultimately too niche to be reliable in its strengths.

Strategist

Those characters born for war or raiding may find this Lifestyle path to be the most useful. Right away, the first perk cuts Casus Belli costs in half. This path also gives decent boosts for army movement speed on land and sea, men-at-arms effectiveness, and siege warfare as well.

The final trait in this path is particularly good for characters who will command their own armies, a crucial aspect of many strategy games (such as Minecraft Legends). Overall, though, the military advantages are pretty mild. They can be overcome quite easily with superior numbers or technology. This path is best used for uniting a new tribal empire, but not much past that point.

Diplomat

With huge bonuses to independent rulers' opinion of you and your ability to learn languages, you might think this would be a more passive path than others. While this can be true, Diplomats also fabricate claims on counties almost twice as fast, and get access to the Force Vassalization Casus Belli.

This path is excellent if you're ruling over a small realm seeking to make connections in faraway lands. It's also not a bad second choice for militant characters wanting to expand very quickly. There are Lifestyle paths with stronger diplomatic or martial benefits, though, and this is almost a hybrid path. In blending solid bonuses in both areas, it sacrifices stronger, more specialized ones.

Administrator

The Administrator path is great for vassals working their way up the hierarchy, but even better for lieges with restless vassals looking to do just that. You'll get solid opinion increases for vassals and lieges, and tons of bonus gold and levy contributions from your most powerful vassals.

Toe the Line is an amazing perk in the Administrator path, as it greatly reduces the chances that vassals will join factions against you. This path is best used when you already have a large feudal network, reducing its overall effectiveness, and there are still several far more useful paths to start out with.

Whole Of Body

Choose some healthy traits in the character designer, then follow this path for a maximum lifespan. You'll increase your base health, drastically reduce the risks that you and members of your court catch diseases, and best of all, you'll know when your character's natural death is one year away.

It's always sad to lose a beloved character in Crusader Kings 3, but it's also a time for new beginnings. Having a year to prepare things for your heir can make a world of difference. The game is full of activity, so never underestimate the value of being prepared for the transition. In a more realm-wide sense, though, there are other bonuses players can enjoy that may serve them even better, depending on their aims.

Architect

This path is very well-rounded, for maximum construction efficiency and secure rule in your home counties. The final trait nicely stacks up the discounts for construction time and cost, while you'll also get a huge popular opinion increase and several military advantages at home. You even get +2 domain limit to increase the number of counties you can hold directly.

It's important to note that popular opinion doesn't affect individuals in Crusader Kings 3, that's just the opinion of the general populace within counties. While your own people may love you, this path does nothing for diplomacy.

Family Hierarch

Matriarchs and Patriarchs make for some of the very best diplomats in the game, since they can unlock the awesome Befriend scheme almost immediately. Friends will not wage war on their friends, however their wider relationship may look. You'll also get some decent skill bonuses for yourself and your children.

Powerful vassal friends can permanently stave off even the thought of rebellion, while befriending other rulers can guarantee peace externally. The only limits to who you can Befriend are the receptiveness and geographical distance of the potential ally. It's important to note that this scheme is available right away, though, which means that completing this Lifestyle path isn't always necessary. The skill bonuses offered towards the end are not as influential.

Gallant

In the age of chivalry, this Lifestyle path is by far the very best for a militaristic focus. You'll get strong bonuses for personal combat, more knights and greatly increased knight effectiveness, and you can even challenge your rivals to single combat. Money, humiliation, or even a duel to the death can be wagered.

This path is also outstanding for smaller realms seeking glory or legitimization. You'll get big boosts to marriage proposal acceptance for your family members, and especially yourself. Even better, you'll get +10 to Peace Acceptance in all wars, helping you avoid spending years on costly sieges.

Scholar

This Lifestyle path has by far the most diverse and powerful benefits of all. You'll heavily bolster relations with other cultures and faiths, learn two additional languages (and at a faster rate), gain huge increases to county development and cultural fascination, and you'll get tons of bonus skill points.

Learning is boosted the most on this path, further increasing your research and development speed. There are many ways to be successful in Crusader Kings 3, but technological superiority, higher development, and peaceful coexistence with other realms will make you vastly stronger than your rivals every time.
