Kindergarten is an exciting time in the life of a child. It a time of self-discovery and awareness where the world opens up with untold possibilities in the life of a child.
As a kindergarten teacher one of the most important things I try to instill in my students is how to become independent and give them the resources they need to take on the world all on their own and thanks to Johnson’s® Baby Hand and Face Wipes and Walmart, I can do just that. From the very first moment my students enter my classroom, everything is set up throughout the class to help them on their way to tackling many of the day to day tasks they’ve come to rely on others to help them with, but when given the rights tools, they can take on all on their own and thrive while doing it. Here are some of the simple things we use in the classroom that you can also use at home right now.
Wipe Those Hands –Part of kindergarten is discovery and that means we encourage and welcome getting messy but getting messy means 20 sets of hands to clean all at the same time. My first year of going from 6th grade to Kindergarten I quickly discovered 20 kids around a teeny, tiny sink-well I am sure you can imagine what that would look like. Placing a small package of Johnson’s® Baby Hand and Face Wipes in each of their cubbies as well as their supply caddies on their tables easily solved the problem. Clean up is down in under a minute.
Art Time- Whether it’s painting, coloring, markers or glue, the last thing I want the students to worry about it making a mess on the table to in every art box, there is a package of Hand and Face Wipes At the end of the project, the table is cleared, the wipes come out to clean off the tables and of course the hands and everyone comes out talking about their creations instead of the mess that was left behind.
Computer Time- Coughs, colds, and flu are sadly a part of life when you’re in school and with so much shared technology in today’s classroom, I’ve had to come up with new ways to help keep everyone as healthy as possible. As my students are on the computer daily, by each keyboard is a package of Johnson’s® Baby Hand and Face Wipes. Every student knows that before they login, their very first task is to take a wipe and wipe down the keyboard. It was such an easy way to help keep kids healthy I can’t believe I didn’t think of it sooner.
Lunch Monitor- Lunchtime brings back up that same question-how do you quickly and efficiently get 20 kids to wash their hands without it taking the entire lunch period. For us, it’s all about the responsibility piece coming into play again. When we line up for lunch, our Lunch Monitor grabs the large package of Johnson’s® Baby Hand and Face Wipes and goes down the line and gives each student a wipe. As they walk out the door, they deposit their wipe in the garbage can by the door and the entire class is ready to eat in under 60 seconds.
Class Nurse- In the life of a Kindergartener, sometimes accidents happen, especially during recess-it enviable no matter how careful you are. And when those times do, never, ever discount the power of a band-aid and a something to wipe the tears. Each day, one of the student’s jobs is to be the Class Nurse and all students know that for the little things that may come up during the course of the day, the Class Nurse will bring over the first day kit to them and supply them with a Johnson & Johnson Hand and Face Wipes and a band aid. Just another way to help teach the responsibility piece that is so important at this age, but more importantly, everything just feels better with a Mickey Mouse band aid on it.
These are just a few of the ways we use Johnson’s® Baby Hand and Face Wipes* in our classroom which can easily become a part of your everyday routine.
