Where does the name come from? Well, it is Lively herself. Her father's last name is originally Brown, and her mom's maiden name is Lively. She shared with Shop TODAY at a recent launch event that both of her parents carry the name, Lively, too, after her dad changed his, but she "never fully stepped into it" [her birth name] until now. "It was important to me to put my name on this brand because I worked so hard on it; it was so personal to me," Lively said.
And you'll see those personal details throughout the collection, too. When it comes to the packaging, Lively wanted the products to sit pretty in your shower — not just in-store. The brand's signature scent, on the other hand, isn't far off from what you'd smell from high-end names. "I wanted a fragrance that I love," Lively said at the launch. "If you’re like me, you spray it [perfume] on your hair and your clothes because that holds it way more than anything else," she added, so to implement that same effect, Lively wanted Blake Brown's scent to smell luxurious — and, of course, to last.
The hair care brand, which will be exclusive to Target, launched with eight products based on Lively’s personal routine. In the assortment, you’ll find the Sandalwood Strengthening Shampoo, as well as the Amber Vanille Dry Shampoo, that you can mix and match with each other. Lively noted on Instagram that her hair is her “longest companion” and that “like any relationship, it’s healthiest when you take good care of each other.”
The actress revealed to Vogue in an exclusive interview that the trick to her hair is simple: Two sets of shampoo and a hair mask. No conditioner, just a moisturizing mask and shampoos that tackle hydration and strength, the two essentials she believes are what all hair types need.
Her tried-and-true process requires alternating between two shampoos for every other wash and leaving a hair mask on for about 30 seconds. For instance, Lively will use her strengthening wash on one day, and the other, a hydrating one — it’s really that simple.
Better yet, Shop TODAY senior partnerships editor Francesca Cocchi Zabloudil has been absolutely loving the product line. "I’ve been using this system for about 10 days now and am already impressed with the results. Per the brand’s recommendation, I alternate between using the 'nourishing' shampoo and mask and the 'strengthening' ones to get the benefits of both," says Zabloudil.
"I have a very oily scalp so I’m always wary of new hair products, but so far I’ve been loving these products and don’t feel like they are weighing down my hair or adding excess buildup," Zabloudil adds. "When I let my hair air dry, I’m left with an enhanced, slightly volumized version of my natural waves, with strands that are soft to the touch. And oh my gosh, the scents! I feel like I’m at a luxury salon every time I use these products."
