STUDY SAYS IDAHO IS HOME TO TWO OF THE HEALTHIEST CITIES IN THE COUNTRY. HERE’S THE LIST

Have you ever wondered if, or how, where you live affects your health?

A new study conducted by Wallethub found that where you live does matter when it comes to health. Depending on the effectiveness of your city’s wellness promotions it can impact your ability to stay healthy.

The Wallethub comparison examined 182 cities and identified the healthiest and unhealthiest in the country. The study listed two cities in Idaho, including the state’s capital.

Healthiest cities in the United States

The four key dimensions the study used to determine the healthiest cities in the country were health care, food, fitness and green space. All key dimensions were evaluated using 57 metrics that ranged from the cost of a medical visit to fruit and vegetable consumption to the share of physically active adults.

The top five healthiest places to live in the U.S., according to the study, are:

  1. San Francisco, California

  2. Honolulu, Hawaii

  3. Seattle, Washington

  4. San Diego, California

  5. Washington, D.C.

Which Idaho cities are healthiest?

If you live in or around Boise, it may be no surprise that the City of Trees ranked high on the list of healthiest American cities.

The study ranked Boise 37th out of 182 cities, but if not for one category, the city could’ve ranked a lot higher.

Boise ranked 25th in healthcare, 35th in fitness and 19th in green spaces. But a rank of 110th for healthy food dragged the city’s overall ranking down.

Nampa also made the list, ranking much lower at 116th overall. Boise’s neighbor to the west was 50th for fitness but otherwise ranked in the triple digits for the three other key dimensions.
