While married to rocker Ronnie Wood she would accompany him on tour to help manage his diet and keep his wild partying to a minimum.
And now Jo Wood has revealed her own secrets to staying healthy and trim at 70 -mushroom powders, no food before midday and avoiding supermarkets.
The wellness guru and former model, who was married to the Rolling Stones star for 24 years until their split in 2008, is on a strict diet and buys the majority of her ingredients from farmers’ markets – with the occasional trip to Waitrose thrown in.
She starts her day ‘with a matcha latte or a decaf latte’ into which she blends one of a series of bizarrely-named mushroom and herb powders.
She said that ‘Lion’s Mane, Turkey Tail, Astragalus, He Shou Wu, Maca and Reishi’ are her favourites.
‘I usually wait until midday to eat,’ she told Closer magazine, admitting that she only needs something ‘simple’ to keep her going until dinner time.
‘Often a banana mashed on good organic bread with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of cinnamon,’ she said. ‘Other days I’ll have kefir with honey and banana.’
The Essex-born star said that her evening meal ‘tends to be something clean and fresh’ with ‘wild-caught cod with a crisp cucumber sandwich’ a firm favourite.
‘And afterwards, I might treat myself to half a bar of Green & Black’s chocolate,’ said Jo of her after-dinner treat.
Opting for fresh, organic produce over supermarket fare, Jo said she prefers to shop at Wylde Market – an online farmers’ market – and orders fruit and vegetable delivery box Riverford.
She added: ‘I occasionally shop at Waitrose, but I try to stay away from supermarkets as much as possible.’
Jo, who launched her own brand of organic cosmetics in 2005 and now runs her own interior design company, has maintained a completely organic diet for some years.
She was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in 2005 and, after visiting a herbalist, decided to cut all processed foods form her diet to relieve the symptoms.
She has also been vocal in her condemnation of weight loss jabs and it’s ‘not a good idea’ for middle-aged women to use them.
Ms Wood met her rock star ex-husband at a party in 1977 and they went on to marry in 1985. They have children Jamie, 51, Leah, 47, and Tyrone, 42.
Wood sensationally left her in 2008 when it emerged that he had been having an affair with 24-year-old Russian waitress Ekaterina 'Katia' Ivanova.
